Sam Ryder To Sing The National Anthem At The British Grand Prix
Sam Ryder will sing the national anthem before the start of the British Grand Prix on 3 July.
In a statement, Ryder said: “From Eurovision to being invited to play the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Concert, the past few months have been a whirlwind and taught me that you can never dream too big!
“Since I was a kid I’ve always been a huge fan of Formula 1, and to combine that with music and performing at such a legendary event on the British sporting calendar is an honour.”
Following his performance, Ryder will then play on the main stage in the Formula 1 Fanzone at Silverstone as part of the post-race concert. Mabel and Alfie Templeman will also perform live as part of the event.
Meanwhile, it has been revealed that, thanks to Ryder’s success in this year’s Eurovision with Spaceman, the BBC is in talks with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to potentially host the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in the UK – not Ukraine.
The show’s organisers decided, after a “full assessment and feasibility study”, that the 2023 event cannot be held in the winning country, Ukraine. This is due to the ongoing war following Russia’s invasion. So, they turned to the UK, which came second.
Reacting to the EBU’s decision, Ukrainian Culture Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko said Kyiv “believes that it has grounds for conducting further talks on finding a solution that will satisfy all.”
“Hosting Eurovision 2023 in Ukraine is a powerful signal to all the world, which is supporting Ukraine now. We will be demanding to change the decision, because we believe that we will be able to fulfil all our obligations”.
Ryder will head out on a UK and Ireland tour next year – remaining tickets are available here.
