Glastonbury 2022: Olivia Rodrigo, Paul McCartney Steal The Show
Glastonbury 2022 has continued to deliver magical moments for festival goers with stand-out sets from Olivia Rodrigo, Paul McCartney, Megan Thee Stallion, Haim, Noel Gallagher and Self Esteem among many more.
Olivia Rodrigo marked her first Glastonbury appearance by bringing out special guest Lily Allen to perform the Allen track F**k You. There was a powerful moment as Rodrigo dedicated the song to the US Supreme Court judges responsible for overturning the Roe Vs Wade ruling. Before Allen arrived on stage, Olivia, 19, told the audience: “Today is a very, very special day. This is actually my first Glastonbury, and I’m sharing the stage with Lily which is the biggest dream come true ever. But I’m also equally as heartbroken. I’m devastated and terrified and so many women and so many girls are going to die because of this. I wanted to dedicate this next song to the five members of the Supreme Court who have showed us that at the end of the day, they truly don’t give a s**t about freedom.”
Allen later reflected on the moment on her Instagram saying, “So overwhelmed watching this stuff back in the car home. So many emotions. My babies got to see their mamma slay Glastonbury with their favourite pop star today. I actually made them proud! And with nearly 3 yrs sobriety under my belt. So happy.”
Later in the evening at Glastonbury 2022, Paul McCartney played an epic, career-spanning set which featured emotional tributes to former bandmates John Lennon and George Harrison, as well as guest appearances from Bruce Springsteen and Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl, in his first public appearance since the death of his bandmate Taylor Hawkins. Playing immediately before McCartney on the Pyramid stage were Noel Gallagher & His High Flying Birds, who gave the audience some of the biggest singalongs of the day with Oasis favourites Half The World Away and Don’t Look Back In Anger.
There were also landmark performances from US rapper Megan Thee Stallion, US girl group Haim and UK R&B star Self Esteem, all of whom confirmed their meteoric rises to fame with ecstatically received sets.
