Paramore Announce New Album ‘This Is Why’, Share Video: Watch
Paramore have released their new song and video, This Is Why. The band have also announced their new album: This Is Why is due out 10 February 2023 on Atlantic.
Of the new song, singer Hayley Williams said in a statement: “This Is Why was the very last song we wrote for the album. To be honest, I was so tired of writing lyrics but [guitarist] Taylor [York] convinced [drummer] Zac [Farro] and I both that we should work on this last idea. What came out of it was the title track for the whole album. It summarizes the plethora of ridiculous emotions, the rollercoaster of being alive in 2022, having survived even just the last three or four years. You’d think after a global pandemic of fucking biblical proportions and the impending doom of a dying planet, that humans would have found it deep within themselves to be kinder or more empathetic or something.”
The video for This Is Why was directed by Turnstile’s Brendan Yates and filmed in Malibu, California. Williams said, “It was so rad working with Brendan. I’ve known the Turnstile guys for a little while and was so psyched to have our worlds collide in this way. There’s a cool kinship between the way our bands do things… Hopefully we will get to play shows with them at some point.”
Paramore have been interviewed by The Guardian to mark the new single and album announcement. Looking back at the band’s career so far, Hayley Williams reflected, “We met at the craziest age and we should not have made it through all the things we’ve been through together.”
Williams went on to discuss writing the lyrics for the new album, “I look at the internet, the news, and it feels like [we’re in] Lord of the Flies. When I was writing the lyrics, I was like, this social experiment – the internet – has been going wrong since day one. It exposes and exploits the general population’s blatant disregard for nuance. Some days I feel so over it, almost to the point of apathy, but that’s the struggle – that you have to fight.”
