David Lynch Announces Virtual Benefit Concert
The David Lynch Foundation announced details of an upcoming virtual benefit concert, which will feature performances by Elvis Costello, Graham Nash, Sting and Kesha, among others.
The esteemed director of Twin Peaks and movies including Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive has practised meditation since 1973, and has run the foundation to support “consciousnesses-based education and peace.”
The gala, which is called ‘Meditate America’ and which will take place on 3rd December, aims to raise support to offer Transcendental Meditation to Americans in need, including war veterans suffering from PTSD, healthcare workers and at risk young people.
Meditate America will be hosted by ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos and will also feature Hugh Jackman interviewing Katy Perry about meditation and motherhood, while the concert is led by musical director Rob Mathes ans will also feature performances by Jim James, Angelique Kidjo and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus.
The David Lynch Foundation described the event as “a national initiative that is being launched on December 3, 2020, to bring the evidence-based Transcendental Meditation technique to everyone in the country who is at-risk and vulnerable to stress and trauma, in the same way that approved medicines are available to people.”
David Lynch, who founded the charity in 2005, spoke to Vice about the benefits of mediation during the pandemic, stating: “Transcendental Meditation allows the human being to dive within and experience an eternal form of pure consciousness that is within all of us. For some reason, we’ve lost contact with this field within—this non-relative, absolute, eternal level, but it’s there within us all.”
The David Lynch Foundation works with underserved inner-city students; healthcare workers on the frontlines of the Covid-19 pandemic; veterans with PTSD and their families; women and children who are survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse; and adults and teens battling substance use disorder.
