David Byrne Joins Miley Cyrus For Bowie Cover: Watch
David Byrne joined Miley Cyrus on stage to perform a cover version of David Bowie’s Let’s Dance. Watch the performance below.
The duet was part of Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party, a star-studded concert that Cyrus co-hosted with Dolly Parton, with whom she also performed a number of songs, including her own Wrecking Ball, Parton’s Jolene and I Will Always Love You, Joan Jett’s I Love Rock’n’Roll and Patsy Cline’s Walking After Midnight.
As well as duetting with David Byrne on Let’s Dance, Cyus joined hte former Talking Heads singer for a take on Byrne’s own American Utopia single, Everybody’s Coming To My House. Byrne later joined Sia for a performance of her Unstoppable.
Meanwhile, Cyrus announced the release of a new single, Flowers, during the broadcast. The star shared two teasers for the track during the show. Flowers follows Cyrus teasing her return by putting up posters that read “New Year New Miley” around the world last month. A countdown later appeared on her official website, with a new countdown now ticking down to the single’s release date on 13 January. A press release confirming the track “heavily encourage[s]” fans to “continue to follow mileycyrus.com for further announcements this week”.
Former Talking Heads frontman Byrne has recently been in the news as he has released a festive song. The Fat Man’s Comin’ was written while Byrne was working on his collaborative album with St Vincent, Love This Giant. It was produced by Jherek Bischoff.
“I always wanted to write a holiday song,” the former Talking Heads frontman said in a press release. “I wouldn’t call it a Christmas song, as the visitation of Santa (formerly known as St. Nicholas, who mainly did punishing) seems to have evolved to be a more secular consumer moment than a religious or spiritual affair.”
