New Order Announced As Final Headliner For Primavera Sound 2023
Primavera Sound have added New Order to the two festival lineups taking place a week apart and cities apart in this summer, from 1-3 June in Barcelona and Madrid from 8-10 June.
The Manchester legends New Order will play at the Parc del Fòrum on 1 June and at the Ciudad del Rock in Arganda del Rey on 8 June.

They join fellow day headliners Blur and Halsey. Depeche Mode, Kendrick Lamar, Blur, Rosalía, Halsey, Skrillex, FKA Twigs, St. Vincent, The Moldy Peaches, Calvin Harris and Le Tigre were previously announced for the Barcelona and Madrid dates, with over 200 names playing each.
Pet Shop Boys will play the festival on Wednesday’s free day, which will return twice in the Parc del Fòrum and the Cívitas Metropolitano.
The Primavera announcement comes in the wake of the 40th anniversary (7 March, 1983) of the release of Blue Monday, New Order’s innovative electronic pop dance single that still sounds as fresh today as it ever did.
On initial release, Blue Monday reached the Top 10 in the UK charts, spent a total of 38 weeks in the Top 75 and is the biggest-selling 12” single of all time with worldwide sales of over 3 Million. Designed by Peter Saville, the unique cover sleeve, resembling a 5 ¼ floppy disk with coloured code strip which when deciphered reads the artist, track and label information, became an instant classic and equally revered as the music itself.
In addition to the huge commercial success on release, the track has been sampled, covered and remixed by many of the worlds biggest stars including Rihanna on Shut Up And Drive, Kylie Minogue on Can’t Get Blue Monday Out Of My Head, Quincy Jones’ Blue Monday 88 and even inspired fashion designer Raf Simons’ A/W 2019 collection, achieving an almost unparalleled status in contemporary culture.
