Ed Sheeran Scores The UK’s Fastest Selling Album Of 2023
Ed Sheeran has the UK’s fastest-selling album of 2023 so far with – (Subtract), according to the Official Charts Company.

At the midweek mark, Subtract has already collected over 56,000 chart units, more than any other album released this year. The previous record was held by Lana Del Rey’s Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd. which pushed 41,000 chart units in total during its first week.
According to today’s Official Albums Chart Update, the record, produced by The National’s Aaron Dessner (Taylor Swift, Gracie Abrams) is set to join all of Ed’s previous studio albums in topping the Official Albums Chart, including 2011’s +, 2014’s x, 2017’s ÷, 2019’s No. 6 Collaborations Project and 2021’s =.
Sheeran has recently been in the news after refuting claims that he turned down an invitation to play at King Charles III’s Coronation concert. Sheeran put the rumours to rest during a chat on SiriusXM, and confirmed that he didn’t attend the show because he was never invited.
“No one ever asked me (to perform),” he said, explaining where he was for the historic event, “I assume if they went online and went ‘What’s Ed doing on May 6’, they would go ‘Oh, he’s playing in Dallas’. I think that’s what happened, but obviously, [the] press had the negative story of loads of people turning down the coronation… But I never ever turned it down.’”
Subtract, released 5 May, is Sheeran’s final LP of a series of albums named after mathematical symbols. The album was produced by the National’s Aaron Dessner. Sheeran said of the album in a statement, “As an artist I didn’t feel like I could credibly put a body of work into the world that didn’t accurately represent where I am and how I need to express myself at this point in my life. This album is purely that. It’s opening the trapdoor into my soul. For the first time I’m not trying to craft an album people will like, I’m merely putting something out that’s honest and true to where I am in my adult life.
