Morrissey Announces ’40 Years Of Morrissey’ Tour
Morrissey has announced tour dates in North and South America to celebrate the 40th anniversary of his music career.

The 40 Years of Morrissey tour will see Morrissey perform songs by The Smiths — who released their first single, Hand In Glove, in May 1983 — and tracks from his solo career, which began with 1988’s Viva Hate. The trek begins September 10 in Mexico City before hitting Peru, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, and Brazil. From there, the singer heads to North America, performing several shows in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Washington, D.C., and New York. He concludes the tour with a four-night stand at New York City’s United Palace, which ends on October 25.
A pre-sale for the tour begins Thursday 22 June at 10:00 a.m. local time (use code DISCO), while tickets open to the general public on Friday 23 June.
Morrissey, Johnny Marr and Mike Joyce all recently paid tribute to their former bandmate in The Smiths, Andy Rourke.
Morrissey wrote on his official site, “Sometimes one of the most radical things you can do is to speak clearly. When someone dies, out come the usual blandishments … as if their death is there to be used. I’m not prepared to do this with Andy. I just hope … wherever Andy has gone … that he’s OK. He will never die as long as his music is heard. He didn’t ever know his own power, and nothing that he played had been played by someone else. His distinction was so terrific and unconventional and he proved it could be done. He was also very, very funny and very happy, and post-Smiths, he kept a steady identity – never any manufactured moves. I suppose, at the end of it all, we hope to feel that we were valued. Andy need not worry about that.”
