While earlier in the week The Beatles’ Now And Then looked set for a second week at the top, the last few days have seen Harlow’s Lovin’ On Me and Dua Lipa’s Houdini overtake them. Today’s (16 November) sales flash shows Lipa to be closing in on Harlow’s possible first-ever No 1 single, with 4,500 UK chart units separating the two tracks.
Previously, Harlow has earned Top 10 tracks with 2021 Lil Nas X team-up Industry Baby (3), 2022’s First Class (2) and, most recently, Jung Kook collaboration 3D (5). Meanwhile, Dua Lipa is on course to net her 14th Official Top 10 single this Friday.
Of those, Dua boasts four Official Number 1 singles to date: 2017’s New Rules, 2018 Calvin Harris collab One Kiss, 2021 release Cold Heart alongside Elton John and, most recently, 2022’s Dance The Night.
In a statement, Dua Lipa said “Houdini embodies that 4 a.m. feeling when the night is coming to a close and you’re a bit sweaty, but you just don’t want the party to end.”
“This track represents the most light and freeing parts of my singledom,” she added. “Houdini is very tongue in cheek, exploring the idea of whether someone is really worth my while or if I’ll ghost them in the end. You never know where something may take you, that’s the beauty of being open to whatever life throws your way. Im looking forward to sharing that feeling of defiant bliss with my fans.”
Meanwhile, Lipa held the latest in her series of Houdini launch parties in the Houdini estate in Laurel Canyon Boulevard on Tuesday (14 November), treating lucky fans to a DJ set and tour of the escapologist’s estate.
