Neil Young Finds Lost ‘Cortez The Killer’ Verses, May Play Them On Upcoming Tour
Neil Young has told fans that he’s found the ‘lost verses’ from his 1975 classic Cortez The Killer and hinted that he may play them on his upcoming tour with Crazy Horse.

“Just a couple of days ago, I found the other verses,” Young told subscribers to his Archives site. “Just the lyrics… we may have those lost lyrics in the show, which will be fun for me.”
“It was a good take,” Young recalled. “So what we did was take the master tape and find ways to cut it together so that it would work, but we lost a couple of verses. They were gone. Now that I’ve found they lyrics, I’m trying to find exactly where they come in the song. I need to look at the tape and see where the cut is, where we lost some. I’ll insert them there.”
Neil Young and Crazy Horse’s upcoming Love Earth tour comes hot on the heels of their forthcoming album Fu##in’ Up. A clear vinyl 2LP limited edition including a litho print of the album cover art will be available on 20 April (Record Store Day). It’s also available to pre-order through The Greedy Hand Store via NYA only, which is a unique arrangement with the Record Store Day organisation to allow a release to be sold outside of participating RSD stores.
On 26 April the black vinyl, compact disc and digital edition will be released.
Last week, Young announced that he is working on a Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young double live album recorded at the Fillmore East in 1969. “The acoustic set was soulfully sung and played, full of great songs and then unknown gems. Staggering harmonies. Happiness,” he wrote. “The electric set quickly moved to a new space.
Now, we have the tapes, and they sound so real,” he shared. “We’re staying all analog throughout the production with a goal of creating a live double vinyl album. Pure. Analog. No digital.”
