Apart from the annual New Year’s Eve event on Copacabana Beach, the Rolling Stones held the previous record for largest audience for almost twenty years. As excitement has been building for weeks in Rio for Madonna’s first performance in Brazil in over 10 years, fans flocked to get a glimpse of the best-selling female artist of all time to witness the final show of her enormously successful The Celebration Tour.
Copacabana Beach was turned into the world’s largest dancefloor as Madonna performed some of her biggest hits from her peerless music catalogue. Described as her most personal tour to date, The Celebration Tour does not only honor Madonna’s four decades of iconic music but is an homage to her unprecedented life, unique artistry and groundbreaking career. Fans who were unable to attend could watch the show broadcast live on TV Globo.
The Rio show was free of charge as a thank you to Madonna’s fans for celebrating more than four decades of her music over the course of the epic global run of the tour. Sponsored by Itaú Apresenta, the Rio show marked the best-selling female recording artist of all time’s first show in Brazil since 2012.
The world got a first glimpse of Madonna’s Celebration tour this past October when the tour launched in London with a record six sold out shows at The O2. Moving across 14 countries the show has not only received rave reviews by fans and critics but is a testament to Madonna’s groundbreaking four-decade long career and ongoing impact on culture.
