The record is of a special performance; their only UK show of 2018 (9 November) at London’s Alexandra Palace and the first live show released on Blu-Ray from the band’s now established line-up of Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris, Gillian Gilbert, Phil Cunningham and Tom Chapman.
Education Entertainment Recreation (Live At Alexandra Palace) will be released on 7th May and spans 2 hours 20 minutes. Opening with Singularity from Music Complete, they eased back in time to 1993’s Regret, to Love Vigilantes from 1985’s Low-Life to Ultraviolence from 1983’s smash hit, Power, Corruption and Lies. The set mixed New Order classics, as well as their latest acclaimed album (2015’s Music Complete) and covers of Joy Division’s finest songs.
Speaking to NME, New Order said:
“We always enjoy our concerts but that Alexandra Palace show was special. The crowd were amazing that night as you can see from the reaction when we began The Perfect Kiss. We’ve all been through some tough times recently but things are slowly opening up now and we can’t wait to get back out playing live.
“There’s nothing quite like the feeling of being on stage and connecting with a huge crowd and we’re really looking forward to our next big show in Manchester Heaton Park this September.”
The Heaton Park show, which will take place on the 10th September 2021, will mark the band’s first performance in their hometown in five years.
The band have promised fans that the gig will prove, “a defining moment in their illustrious career” and said in a statement that, “the connection between ourselves and Manchester has played a pivotal role in who we are as a band. We have countless memories from across the city, from our early days starting out, and beyond.”
