LCD Soundsystem have announced their 2024 NYC Winter Function residency, set to kick off at the end of the year.

James Murphy’s team took to Instagram to share a post confirming the dates for their annual NYC holiday residencies. The influential electro-pop outfit will be taking over Queens’ Knockdown Center for three weekends spanning November and December.

The first week will see LCD Soundsystem perform on November 21, 22, 23 and 24. They will return after Thanksgiving break on December 5, 6, 7, 8. Their final dates will take place on December 12, 13, 14 and 15. Opening support will come from special surprise guest bands every night.

A ticket pre-sale will be available for American Express cardholders and will commence on Tuesday (September 24) at 10am EST until Wednesday (25) at 10am EST. A fan pre-sale will also be available on that Wednesday at the same time. General ticket sales will be available from Thursday (September 26) at 10am EST. Visit the band’s official website for further information.

The announcement of the band’s NYC Winter Function residency comes after they shared that they would be taking over Los Angeles with two residencies at the Shrine expo and Hollywood Palladium in November.

They have previously performed residences in London, Philadelphia, Boston and California’s Bay Area. Back in 2022, Murphy shared a lengthy Facebook post explaining the band’s decision to take on residencies rather than massive shows.

“You see, we tend, historically, to take big chunks of time off between tours and LPs. and then, after the break, I begin to feel like I want to make a record, or we want to play some shows. But then I start to think ‘Oh man. If I make an album, then we need to rehearse for months to get ready to tour, and you need to book a tour so far in advance, and who knows when the record will be ready?’ this happened with American Dream,” Murphy wrote.

“We booked the shows, thinking I’d be done or nearly done with the record, and then I wasn’t, and there we are on this full tour with me trying to work on the record in the gaps, which weren’t that many,” he added.

“We really wanted to stop living like that, so we talked about just playing some shows in New York, since most of us live here, and not making it too big of a deal. Like, just playing because we like it, and because we like one another. Just be a New York band for a bit. Maybe we’ll do something like that every year. Just stay in shape, if that makes sense, and just make records along the way.”

The band’s last release was the 2022 single New Body Rumba, which appeared on the soundtrack for Noah Baumbach’s film, White Noise.

The track marked the band’s first original material since the 2017 comeback album American Dream, which arrived after a seven-year hiatus following 2010’s This Is Happening.
