Chris Martin of Coldplay has revealed that he plans for the band to make two more “proper albums” after their upcoming LP Moon Music in a new interview with Apple Music.

“We are only going to do 12 proper albums, and that’s real,” said Martin. “Less is more. And for some of our critics, even less would be even more. It’s really important that we have that limit… “There’s only 12 and a half Beatles albums. There’s about the same Bob Marley, so all of our heroes. And also having that limit means that the quality control is so high right now, and for a song to make it, it’s almost impossible, which is great.”

Martin went on to reassure fans that he will continue to make music after the band have gone their separate ways. “That will always continue in some way, but there’s something about the Coldplay thing,” said Martin. “I don’t know where the songs come from. I don’t know where the ideas come from, but that’s just been coming to me for about four or five years now. Like, ‘You have to finish like this,’ and I trust that just like I trust the songs.”

He continued, “So if we do something together after that creatively beyond touring, then it’ll be something different, or it’ll be a side thing, or it’ll be a compilation of things we hadn’t finished.”

The news comes days before Coldplay release their new album, Moon Music. The album will feature the recent singles We Pray and feelslikeimfallinginlove. Each vinyl copy of the album – produced by Max Martin – will be made out of nine recycled PET-plastic bottles that have been recovered from waste, which will prevent the manufacture of more than 25 metric tonnes of virgin plastic, and provide an 85% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to traditional 140g vinyl.

Likewise, CD editions of the record will be the first in the world to be released on ‘EcoCD’, created from 90% recycled polycarbonate, sourced from post-consumer waste streams.

There will also be a limited ‘Notebook Edition’ of the record, which comes as a casebound hardback book, a replica of Chris Martin’s original studio notebook. It will contain 28 pages of notes, lyrics and illustrations from the album’s creative process.
