“I made the remix for fun, didn’t think much of it,” Deep Thrills remembers. After posting the remix to TikTok and making it free to download, it began to grab the attention of other DJs, who started to spin the track. Not only has the remix gone viral, having garnered over 5 million views of the sound on TikTok, but Charli herself has used the remix on her own TikTok and Instagram. “It’s cool to see something grow organically like that.”
After years of touring and releasing music in the indie-dance outfit Paper Idol, LA-based artist Matan KG takes a bold new step as Deep Thrills. The debut track from the hyperclash – the thrilling mixture of hyperpop and electroclash – artist was released earlier this year. “First Date,” a collaboration with LA-based electropop artist and visual designer XKYLAR (recently featured in Paper Magazine) is a bloghaus-friendly dance track.
Since launching with First Date only 3 months ago, Deep Thrills tracks have become a staple of the LA and NYC club scene. He’s been supported by Charli XCX and The Hellp, and was recently featured in Dorian Electra’s Boiler Room set. His remix of Von Dutch has already garnered over 5 million streams on Tik Tok and been featured on Charli XCX’s account.
Meanwhile, Charli XCX is up against Paul Heaton in a race for this week’s UK No 1 album. Charli’s new remix album, Brat and It’s Completely Different but Also Still Brat has gone from No 16 to No 2 on the midweek charts, challenging the former Housemartins and Beautiful South singer whose The Mighty Several is currently on course to be his first solo No 1 album. Heaton has six No 1 albums from his time in The Beautiful South and as a duo with Jacqui Abbott.
