“I ended up figuring out that I love talking about my problems in life to strangers,” the BLACKPINK star said of the writing process for the album. “It was like a free therapy session.”
“Rosie is the name that my friends and family call me, so as much as this album is a little journal of my twenties, I wanted my fans to feel like they can call me Rosie and feel like I’m their friend,” she said of her first full-length project outside of BLACKPINK. “I healed so much through the whole process. For me, it’s a really personal album and I’m really grateful for it.”
Meanwhile, ROSÉ and Bruno Mars are less than 50 chart units away from overtaking Gracie Abrams in the race for this week’s UK No 1 single, according to Official Charts.
Midweek charts suggest that the song – which has already spent six weeks in the UK Top 10 with the single – could give BLACKPINK star ROSÉ her first UK No 1 single. It would be Mars’ sixth and his first since Uptown Funk with Mark Ronson at the end of 2014.
The single has been an enormous hit around the world and will be released on black 7″ vinyl at the end of February.
ROSÉ revealed in a press release that Apt. is inspired by her “favourite Korean drinking game that I play with my friends back home”.
“One night in the studio I taught my crew how to play the game. Everyone was fascinated, especially when I started the chant, so we played around with it and I said we should make a song out of it,” she explained. “After Bruno joined the track, the rest became history!”
Apt. is the first single from the BLACKPINK star’s debut solo studio album, titled Rosie, out now on Atlantic Records.
