Eric Clapton Unplugged… Over 30 Years Later, an extended version of the guitarist’s 90-minute MTV Unplugged special, will be released in selected UK and US cinemas on 27 and 28 January.

Tickets for the theatrical release are available now, exclusively at Dolby Atmos compatible cinemas in the US and UK.

Clapton originally recorded his hour-long Unplugged performance in 1992 at Bray Studios in Windsor, England. The extended remastered edition will feature exclusive footage of Clapton discussing the inspiration behind specific songs and performances with the crew just before he took the stage, which is integrated with the performance.

During the performance, Clapton reimagined his catalogue with first-time acoustic arrangements of hits including Layla, Tears In Heaven, and more. He also paid homage to the blues music that influenced him, performing classics including Before You Accuse Me, originally recorded by Bo Diddley; Nobody Knows You When You’re Down and Out, originally recorded by Bessie Smith; and more.

Unplugged, released in August 1992, sold over 26 million copies worldwide and went on to become the best-selling live album of all time. Following its release, Clapton was nominated for nine Grammy Awards at the 35th Annual Grammy Awards in 1993 and won six, including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Performance – Male, Best Rock Vocal Performance – Male, and Best Rock Song. Clapton is an 18-time Grammy winner who has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times, as a solo artist and separately as a member of The Yardbirds and of Cream.

The extended, remixed and remastered edition of Clapton’s MTV Unplugged is a collaboration between MTV, Surfdog Records and producer John Logsdon. Bruce Gillmer and Vanessa Whitewolf serve as executive producers for MTV with Clapton, Michael Eaton and Dave Kaplan. Alicia Portugal is the series executive in charge, with Lisa Lauricella taking on the role of series music talent executive.
