Barack Obama has continued a tradition he began in office by unveiling his summer playlist for 2021. The former president of the United States showed off his taste in music by mixing old and new classics with under-the-radar gems, adding “With so many folks getting together with family and friends, there’s a lot to celebrate this summer. Here’s a playlist of songs I’ve been listening to lately — it’s a mix of old and new, household names and emerging artists, and a whole lot in between.”

Obama’s playlist features classic tracks like Joni Mitchell‘s Coyote, from her 1976 album Hejira; George Harrison’s My Sweet Lord, from his 1971 debut solo album, All Things Must Pass; Stevie Wonder’s If You Really Love Me, from 1971’s Where I’m Coming From; Bob Dylan’s I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight from 1967’s John Wesley Harding; and Tumbling Dice by The Rolling Stones, a standout from from their 1973 classic, Exile On Main Street. Some of the more modern surprises include Migos’ Straightenin, Sza’s Good Days, Brandi Carlile’s Speak Your Mind (featured on the soundtrack to his and wife Michelle Obama’s Netflix series, We The People, and Drake and Lil Baby’s Wants and Needs.

Obama has often talked about his love of music and this year released a podcast with Bruce Springsteen, Renegades: Born In The USA. “I sing in the shower, I sing outside of the shower. I am unembarrassed about singing,” he revealed during an episode of Renegades. “My daughters and my wife sometimes roll their eyes.”
