Metallica To Release Three New Jigsaw Puzzles
Metallica will release three 500-piece jigsaw puzzles based on classic albums. Puzzles depicting the covers of 2003’s St Anger, 2008’s Death Magnetic and 2016’s Hardwired… To Self-Destruct are due for release on 17 September and available to pre-order here.
The sets follow previous puzzles in the series depicting the covers to Metallica albums Kill Em All’, Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets. All of the sets in the series come in 12″ boxes so that the puzzles can be stored alongside their vinyl album counterparts.
The sets are made by Rock Saws, a division of Zee Productions. Steve Beatty of Zee (a self-professed metalhead) explained the thinking behind the jigsaw puzzles in an interview with Toy News: “I want to make jigsaws that are for the music fan. Vinyl came back and I loved the idea of making great record sleeve art into jigsaws, maybe stick the record on and do [both] together,” Beatty said.
Metallica aren’t the only iconic rock artists to recieve the jigsaw puzzle treatment from Rock Saws. Since they began producing the sets last year, they have released a range of 500 and 1000 piece puzzles featuring official album artwork from artists David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, The Clash, Nirvana, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, Hawkwind and Queen. Check out their 500 piece jigsaw puzzle based on the cover of David Bowie‘s classic 1972 album, The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars here and a set depicting the iconic cover of Bowie’s 12th studio album, 1977’s “Heroes”, here.
Once the sets for St Anger, Death Magnetic and Hardwired… To Self-Destruct have been released, the only studio albums in Metallica’s catalogue yet to receive the Rock Saw treatment will be 1991’s self-titled LP (commonly known as The Black Album), 1996’s Load and 1997’s Reload.
