Griff, Liam Gallagher, Sam Fender Win At NME Awards
Griff, Liam Gallagher and Sam Fender were among the winners at the NME Awards 2022 held last night (2 March 2022) at Brixton Academy, London.
Griff secured the NME Radar Award and told the audience: “I count it as a privilege that every day I get to do this.”
She later returned to the stage alongside Norwegian singer Sigrid to collect the prize for best collaboration for their track Head On Fire.
The award for Music Moment Of The Year went to former Oasis singer Liam Gallagher for the free concert he played for NHS workers at the O2 Arena, London, last summer. Gallagher was unable to attend the ceremony but provided a statement, reading, “Sorry I can’t be there tonight to accept the award, unfortunately I’m a bit under the weather,” said Gallagher. “I’d like to dedicate it to all the NHS workers and care workers.”
One of the highlights of the evening was Robert Smith of The Cure’s performance with Scottish synth-pop trio Chvrches. Smith and the band played their 2021 collaboration How Not To Drown (voted Best Song By A UK Artist) and the Cure classic Just Like Heaven.
