Ed Sheeran And Antytila Team Up For Reworked ‘2Step’ To Raise Funds For Ukraine
Ed Sheeran has released a reworked version of his latest hit, 2Step, featuring a new verse from Ukrainian band Antytila.
The new video for 2Step stars Antytila, who also directed and produced it.
Royalties earned from streams of the official video on YouTube will be donated to Music Saves UA, a non-profit fundraising project created by the Ukrainian Association of Music Events to provide immediate humanitarian help to those most in need right now in Ukraine.
Antytila frontman Taras Topolia told The Times his lyrics in the new version were inspired by the distance from his family during the conflict. His wife Alyosha, also a popular Ukrainian singer, left the country on the first day of the Russian invasion, and is now in the US with the couple’s three children.
Topolia, who continues to fight and is working as a paramedic in and around Kharkiv, recorded his vocals on the outskirts of the capital city of Kyiv, where the video was also filmed.
Meanwhile, Antytila have shared screenshots of conversations they’d had with Sheeran on their Instagram page.
“I’m up for whatever man, just please keep safe,” Sheeran wrote to the group. “The video you sent was so heartbreaking, I’m so sorry all of this is happening. It’s incredible you write lyrics like that considering all that’s going on, I really appreciate it.”
