Daft Punk are working on music that could end up as their fifth album, according to former collaborator and session drummer Quinn.

In an interview with alt.news 26:46, Quinn shared that the French duo, aka Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, began work on a follow-up to Random Access Memories in 2018 — though the project is now in “limbo”. Quinn revealed, “I keep checking in. I’m told they’re working on it”. Watch the interview below.
Quinn went on to discuss the early stages of the recording. “Thomas had this keyboard, and actually had a computer program, and he was just experimenting. He was just hitting things. We were literally just trying to get vibes across.”
“I remember playing this one thing — my piano board, the insides of a piano — I put my kick pedal on the strings and played it like a kick drum. I remember those guys really loving that. I don’t know if it’ll make the record. It was the craziest, weird-sounding things.”
Meanwhile, Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter recently announced that he would be scoring the latest film from Quentin Dupieux (Mr. Ozi), Daaaaaalí!, to be released on 7 February via Ed Banger.
Banglater’s previous album, Mythologies, was initially commissioned by the choreographer Angelin Preljocaj for the ballet of the same name and premiered by the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine under the direction of Romain Dumas.
Last year, a 10th anniversary reissue of Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories was released, with nine bonus tracks adding up to 35 minutes of previously unreleased music. It’s available in 3LP, 2CD, streaming, and downloadable formats. A spatial audio (Atmos) mix of the original album has also be made available for the first time.
