The star also revealed that he’s already shot two new music videos with two more planned for early next year while we tour.

“It feels like I’m getting back into big pop for the first time in a long time,” Sheeran said. “It’s quite exciting.”

Sheeran also spoke about his latest single, Under The Tree, which features in the new Richard Curtis animated film That Christmas.

“[Curtis] asked if I wanted to write the music for it, and I said, ‘Cool,’” Sheeran said. “There was one scene, and I wrote a chorus for it, but didn’t hear anything back.’”

“I’d never seen the need [to write] a sad Christmas song until writing this one” he went on. “This is quite a lot of people’s realities at Christmas.”

Curtis also directed the song’s video and added, “I hope I’ve done justice to his gorgeous song. It’s lyrically magical and it unlocks a critical moment in the film for us. Suddenly you feel all these layered emotions that go beyond what is seen on screen and you are filled with longing and hope.”

It caps another big year for Sheeran, who recently announced the release of +-=÷× (Tour Collection: Live), a set which includes live and studio versions of songs from his series of ‘Mathematics’ albums, to be released on 27 December. “We have one more year of this tour then Mathematics is over for good, and onto the next set of symbols…” he posted.

“It’s been 15 years of releasing these Mathematics albums and it’s been a hell of a journey so far. I wanted to make a collection of the songs I play on the tour, but also just to have all the big songs in one place for fans, or new coming fans, a journey of where it’s been and where it is now.”
