Jay-Z Sets Another Record As Signed Trading Card Sells for $105K At Auction
A trading card autographed by Hip-Hop mogul Jay-Z has sold for $105,780, setting a new record for a non-sports card sale.
The news of the sale was announced by SlabStox Sports Card Trading on their Instagram, reading:
“This is a public service announcement… a Jay-Z Topps Chrome Superfractor RC Auto 1/1 just sold for $105,780 via @goldinauctions. That marks the all-time record for a non-sports/TCG card.” With Goldin Auctions, who sold the item, confirming the news.
There were 49 bids in total on the card, which opened at $500 and sat at $2,200 on Friday before a flurry of activity took place.
the ‘Signs Of Stardom’ card on Goldin Auctions’ official website reads: “This collectable boasts an incredible signature by hip-hop mogul Jay-Z. The New York icon has signed the card in bold black marker. The card’s BGS condition report: Centering: 9.5, Corners: 9, Edges: 9.5, Surface: 9.
“A statement on the card’s back by Topps attests to the authenticity of the signature, and serves as the item’s COA. The limited-edition piece is serial-numbered ‘1/1.’ Mint condition.”
Jay-Z isn’t the only one to have made history recently, with his wife Beyoncé setting a new record as the most-awarded woman in the history of the Grammy’s, overtaking Alison Krauss, with 28 awards.
In her speech she said, “”I am so honoured, I’m so excited”, while collecting the trophy for Best R&B Performance for Black Parade.
“As an artist, I believe it’s my job to reflect the times, and it’s been such a difficult time,.
So I wanted to uplift, encourage, celebrate all of the beautiful black queens and kings that continue to inspire me and inspire the world”. she said, collecting her Grammy.
Beyoncé also has the most nominations for a female artist, with 79. She also picked up the trophy for her collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion on Savage (Remix), which marked another first: with Megan being the first female rapper to win the Best Rap Song award.
