Porno For Pyros Share Final Ever Song ‘Fingernail’: Listen
Porno for Pyros have released their final ever song, Fingernail, listen below.
The release follows their Horns, Thorns En Halos farewell tour and is one of three new songs the ban recorded last year, along with previous singles Agua and Little Me. Each of the tunes were originally written in the ’90s but never completed until last year.
Like the previous two tracks, Fingernail features Porno for Pyros’ original line-up of singer Perry Farrell, guitarist Peter DiStefano, drummer Stephen Perkins, and bassist Martyn LeNoble. Their farewell tour featured bassist Mike Watt, who had actually replaced LeNoble in the band back in 1995, before their breakup in 1998.
“The moment the melody touched the words I knew it would be a special song,’ Farrell said of Fingernail, in a statement adding. “But I was too immature to understand the essence fully.”
He continued, “There is no pain in the cutting of our hair, eyelashes or a fingernail, because they are dead, although the world at every instant is renewed. The death invested within us is pushed out, and the soul is again restored.”
LeNoble, who chose not to join the band on the farewell tour, commented, In Fingernail, I hear our lives, and yours. Decades of growing. Happiness, heartbreak, tension, loss and joy… growing pains. In this case it took almost 30 years for this song to slowly grow into what it is now. And, the way the song ends…. I love redemption songs. I’d say we ended it well Perry, Peter and Stephen.”
When the reunion tour was launched back in November last year, Farrell spoke of his joy at getting the band back together, “Now we’re here, and that same heart, that same desire to make music together, has returned. Getting together with these guys has been some of the most fun, the happiest times in my life”
