See Metallica’s Kirk Hammett Play Peter Green’s Guitar In Tribute Concert
A video of Kirk Hammett playing Peter Green‘s legendary Les Paul guitar has been shared.
Taken from footage of the all-star tribute concert to Peter Green that was held back in February of this year, it shows the Metallica star playing the 1959 guitar as he performs Fleetwood Mac‘s The Green Manalishi (With The Two Pronged Crown).
The concert, which took place at the London Palladium on 25th February 2020, saw a host of famous faces gather in tribute to the founder of Fleetwood Mac, Peter Green. Fellow Fleetwood Mac members Mick Fleetwood and Christine McVie performed, as did Noel Gallagher, John Mayall, Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler.
Mick Fleetwood curated the line-up and said, “The concert was a celebration of those early blues days where we all began, and it’s important to recognize the profound impact Peter and the early Fleetwood Mac had on the world of music. Peter was my greatest mentor and it gave me such joy to pay tribute to his incredible talent. I was honoured to be sharing the stage with some of the many artists Peter has inspired over the years and who share my great respect for this remarkable musician. ‘Then Play On’…”
The new clip of Kirk Hammett’s performance is a taser ahead of a cinema release of the concert, which will be screened on 23rd/28th March 2021 across the country, and can be watched below.
The concert is also seeing a physical release on 30th April 2021 and will be available as a 4LP gatefold set, 2CD/Blu-Ray with 20-page mediabook, and a 44-page hardbound book pack, as well as digital audio. Sleevenotes are provided by Mick Fleetwood biographer, Anthony Bozza, alongside photos from the event and quotes from all the performers.
The performance took place five months before Peter Green passed away, on 25th July 2020, at the age of 73.
