Stormzy Shares ‘Need You’ Video: Watch
Stormzy has shared a new video for his track Need You, featuring Ayra Starr and Tendai – watch it below. Need You is taken from his 2022 album, This Is What I Mean.
At the time of This Is What I Mean’s release, Stormzy shared an open letter to his fans and critics, asking them to give the deeply personal record a chance. “I feel like I overshare, which makes me feel naked at times. But I do it so that you guys can understand me a bit better and to give the art that I make some context,” he wrote.
“I pray you listen to this album with an open heart, and if you hate it after, I promise to God I’m perfectly fine with that; I’m just grateful you listened with openness.”
Stormzy was recently been put forward for a council award in his south London hometown. The best-selling UK rapper has been nominated by Croydon Council for the Freedom of the Borough award. It is the highest honour the council can issue, and dates back to Victorian times.
A spokesperson for Croydon Council confirmed Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr, known professionally as Stormzy, had been nominated. A formal invitation has been sent to the international star, with the council now waiting for a response.
Stormzy will headline a special day at All Points East festival as part of his own curated This is What We Mean Day on Friday 18th August 2023.
Sharing the humorous announcement on Instagram, the Mel Made Me Do It star said: “I was thinking what’s next cos we’ve done 3 O2s shut that down. I said to the team we gotta do something bigger something better something different. We were having back to back meetings bouncing ideas.
“Then it hit me I started jotting down ideas thinking – live band need a live band. August 2023 a summer time thing outside for the people always for my people. So August 2023 Victoria Park more info coming soon….This Is What We Mean Day. Hard.”
