Willy Cobb Unveils Debut ‘Country Punkin’’ EP
Picking up steam as an artist to watch, Southern alt rocker Willy Cobb serves up a smoking and scorching new EP entitled Country Punkin’ out now via War Buddha / Warner Records. You can check out the full tracklist below.
Country Punkin’ continues to distinguish him as a sonic maverick armed with country grit, rock ‘n’ roll spirit, punk fire, and a psychedelic perspective all his own. Among many highlights, fuzzed-out guitar underlines shoegaze vocals on Burnin’. Emotion overflows from the climactic chorus, “But every other thing you said is burnin’ through my head.” Then, there’s Daddy On Drugs. Relaying a dark little tale, a loose riff snakes around the beat as he exhales, “Daddy on drugs, hate it to break it to you”. Cut from a different cloth, the five-track EP affirms Willy as a new kind of musical outlaw.
Cobb bulldozed the way for the Country Punkin’ project with Sincerely FU. Earlier this year, Willy Cobb lit up the introductory single Cigarette Smell, which garnered widespread critical acclaim. Rolling Stone touted it among “All the Songs You Need to Know This Week.” Plus, NOTION sat down with him for an in-depth interview and professed “the single sees Willy Cobb at his best.”
Not to mention such accolades, Willy Cobb has recently shared the stage with Chris Shiflett of Foo Fighters and The Cadillac Three across North America and Europe.
Alternative rock singer-songwriter Willy Cobb’s new music, produced and co-written with country singer Brent Cobb and The Cadillac Three leader Jaren Johnston, serves as a dynamic crash course in his blend of down-home pride and punk attitude. As a kid riding in his family’s truck, his dad would throw on Hank Williams, while his mom favored Nirvana. Now a rising talent in Nashville, the singer and guitarist still channels his upbringing in his lyrics, which pay homage to small-town misbehaviour and malaise.
Country Punkin’ includes the following tracks:
1. Cigarette Smell
2. Country Punkin’
3. Daddy On Drugs
4. Burnin’
5. Sincerely FU
